After a third place finish in the final stage of Cymru Taith, Kristiaan "The Ruler" Roels has scored enough points to become the new National Champion of his home country Belgium. In doing so he has also the first rider from California Mist to break into the Top 10 riders in the world, which is a terrific achievement, and just shows the form he's had in the first half of this season.
Roels said "I'm honoured to wear these colours, and I owe it all to my team here. The management believed in me right from the start, and have brought in real quality around me to help. All of my leadout train have the capabilities to win races the self, but instead help me, and for that I'm very greatful. They're the best friends I could have."
Knotts said "We've always known Roels was good, but didn't know he was this good. His performances since we've improved the leadout train have been exceptional and were proud he's here. We're now in Top Division, so we will have to see how results go, before deciding on what's the next plan for the team. For now training is focused on De Nooy, then were looking for hill teammates for him. The aim is to build a bridging team between sprinting and climbing, so then we have the fundamentals in place for a climbing squad aswell. This is in the future."
The question remains, what does Roels have to do to be selected for the national team? With Belgiums latest squad announced for Odense - Kobenhavn, the ruler has been overlooked again, and in a race which suits his skills perfectly.

Congrats Roels!
He's in Jakke's (our nt manager) pre selection, maybe he has a low dp everytime there's a wt race, :)
Roels is doing well as usual. Holm has underperformed his whole career, with his previous teams as well. Hoping he is a late bloomer.
Im surprised Roels didn't gift you 3rd to be honest. In his results this season it looks like if he doesn't win, he would get 4th. 8 races as captain: 2 wins, 1 3rd (today), 4 4ths and a 12th - he got boxed in ;) Holm is performing well so far, after underperforming last season
Well done Roels! Thanks for stealing my Swedish National Champion out of the podium by 1 position :-) I was actually hoping to win the stage, but I can't complain about Holm's season to date.
